Meet the Team
Oakhurst Lodge is a transition service from Hill House School, set up in order to extend our provision beyond school age. Its emphasis is on developing life, vocational and intellectual skills that will support a successful transition into adult life.
Located on the outskirts of the New Forest, and in a community setting, between Southampton and Lyndhurst, Oakhurst Lodge is set in a large garden with rest and recreation areas. Perimeter fencing and automatic gates provide a safe and secure environment for students, yet not at the expense of a homely, comfortable atmosphere.
The Lodge’s position is ideal for access rail, bus and local shops, with the benefits of the Forest, coast and larger city amenities to hand. Opportunities to spend time in the community are central to our young people’s development. To this end, trips to support learning are scheduled daily.
Students’ communication is supported by a wide range of symbolic and photographic materials as visual clues to promote independence.
Dedicated clinical teams provide a multi-disciplinary input, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, behavioural therapy, psychology, psychiatry and vocational training.
Accommodation has been carefully designed to meet the needs of the young people it serves, including eight single bedrooms with en-suite shower facilities and two bathrooms with Jacuzzi.
Adjoining the spacious house is an additional learning base equipped with a practical area, computers and an interactive whiteboard. We also have a sensory room.
