Fostering attend: Whiteladies Farmers Market
Our friendly fostering team representing Cambian at the Whiteladies Farmers Market in Bristol on Saturday 6 June to speak to the public about fostering and the need for more carers in Bristol and the surrounding area.
Could you foster a teenager?
Across the South West 550 new foster carers are needed to provide a loving and stable environment for vulnerable young people, a majority of which are aged 10 and over. Cambian Foster Care would like to speak to anyone interested in fostering teenagers.
Lesley Burbridge, Cambian Foster Carer said:
“My highlight of fostering was when I took in a young man with Autism; I’d had him since he was 14 and helped him get into university. Its seeing a young person grow and develop, is important. Fostering is a challenge, but something I enjoy. I like seeing that end result.
“The only way you can be a good foster carer is if you’ve got a good team behind you. I’ve been doing this job for fifteen years so I know what a good team looks like. They are all very knowledgeable about fostering. Cambian are brilliant at supporting me in my role.
“I currently foster four teenage boys; I am better at fostering older children. My main advice is you’ve got to be their friend. They’ve got mums, so they don’t want another mum, they just want me to be Lesley. If you try to be their mum they don’t like it. So you have to pick your battles.”
