Fostering attend Nailsea Market, Bristol
Our friendly fostering team representing Cambian at the Nailsea Market in Bristol on Saturday 20 June to speak to the public about fostering and the need for more carers in Bristol and the surrounding area.
Could you be a parent and child carer?
Cambian Foster Care is currently looking for parent and child carers that can: help young mums or dads learn how to care for their baby, work with the team around the family to ensure their needs are met and assess the parent’s ability to care for their child.
Diane and Jason’s* success story
Diane came to live with Cambian Foster Carers at the age of 26 when her baby was 10 days old. The Local Authority had no concerns about her ability to parent, but were concerned about her and baby Jason’s safety. She has previously been in relationships that involved domestic violence and the placement was her opportunity to learn more about healthy relationships and how to take care of her family.
Her carers’ consistent and continuous advice and attending therapy groups have helped change her attitude towards relationships. They have acted like role models showing her how disagreements can be worked through in a non-violent way. She is now confident that she can parent her child and has good relationships with other young mums in the area.
During her placement her carers also helped grow her self-esteem and confidence by teaching her to cook healthy meals and how to budget. She now lives independently with her child in the local community, but her carers are on hand to offer support or advice if she needs them.
