The Fountains Hospital

Blackburn, Lancashire

A 32-bed hospital specializing in psychiatric rehabilitation for men.

‘We can’t thank you enough for all the care and support you have given our son, we will always be grateful. We have never seen him so well' Grateful  parents

The hospital itself is carefully designed to provide an environment which promotes recovery for men for whom life has been a challenge in the past. The fountain in the entrance that gives the hospital its name is a soothing feature but our relaxed atmosphere is combined with one of purposeful activity.

Dedicated clinical teams provide a multi-disciplinary input including occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry and vocational training. All bedrooms have en suite facilities. We have various therapy rooms including an IT suite. For fitness fanatics we are well-provided with a treadmill and other gym equipment.

Music is an important feature at The Fountains. Many patients have music lessons and learn to DJ too. We provide them with the necessary music system, guitars, a drum kit and keyboards.

We have an in-house group led by patients. There is a real community spirit and the patients really feel they have a voice.

Great emphasis is placed on lifelong learning whether going to college, attending self help groups, or joining the maths and English groups.

Where appropriate, access to the local community is an essential step along the pathway to rehabilitation, for both leisure pursuits and for social training such as shopping and using public transport, so the hospital is ideally placed. It is less than a mile from the centre of Blackburn and is a 5 minute walk to local amenities including convenience store, barbers and a large supermarket.

Blackburn has a very diverse population and places of worship for various denominations. We have patients who regularly visit a mosque or church.

We are close to Preston and not too far from Blackpool where patients like to visit at the weekend.  The Pennines offer plenty of nearby countryside to stretch the legs and breathe in the fresh air.
