everyone has a personal best
Staff and patients from across Cambian’s East Midlands hospitals combined their efforts for this year’s Sport Relief, organising a triathlon to raise a total of £339.06 for a great cause.
Patients from; The Limes, Sherwood House, Sherwood Lodge, Storthfield, The Manor and the Community Team all came together to cycle for 82 miles, walk for 52 miles and swim 60 lengths in three, one-day events.
Some 28 people first used the gym at Sherwood House to cycle the equivalent of Nottingham to Skegness, a popular charity cycling route. Then 31 people met at Sherwood Pines Forest Park on 21 March to walk their target of 52.4 miles, the equivalent of two London Marathons.
On 23 March, the hospitals then met at Creswell Leisure Centre where seven of the patients who contributed in the swimming smashed the target to complete an impressive 112 lengths.
Kerry Muldoon, Occupational Therapist, The Limes, said: “All the patients involved said they had thoroughly enjoyed the event. One patient from The Manor, who completed 3.5 miles towards the cycle target, was beaming with pride and wanted to push himself to cycle as far as he could as he said: ‘Raising money for children who really need help is important, and I want to do all that I can to help’.”
The walk also incorporated a picnic at the end, with each hospital helping out. All patients also received certificates for the activities they engaged in.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped towards organising and supporting this great event,” she added.
