Choosing the right residential placement can be a difficult process, especially when you may be faced with a range of other considerations such as; relevant support for complex needs, further education opportunities, the prospect of work experience, a calming and friendly environment, and the continued promotion of emotional health and well being.
Cambian's specialist Autism Colleges with residential provisions offer a person-centred approach, with learning programmes to match the needs of the individual. This ensures that each young person receives the care and further education they deserve and that the requirements of their Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP)* are being met.
Our residential Autism Colleges are passionate about providing students with important life skills and meaningful qualifications, evidencing our commitment to enabling increased choice, control and independence.
Our specialist residential Autism Colleges offer a supportive and relaxing environment for young adults with autism, and other associated difficulties, aged 16-25 years.
Our Autism Colleges provide a diverse range of experiences delivered by our team of skilled clinical support staff and knowledgeable teachers through person-centred programmes that are supported by an extensive range of therapeutic input, fantastic on-site facilities and off-site partnerships. Our trained multidisciplinary team assist the young adults in our care to adapt successfully beyond further education and on to living meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Student accommodation provides individuals with the opportunity to experience living away from home and developing skills for independence such as cooking, shopping, doing laundry, supported travel training and community awareness. Gaining these skills will enhance their experience of moving onto Independent Supported Living if this is a future option.
Not only do we offer a welcoming and homely environment for those in our care, but we provide bespoke care and education plans prioritising the needs of the individual, we also work on improving confidence and self-esteem, whilst providing a calming environment which is conducive to continued learning.
By offering the opportunity to undertake work experience and nationally recognised vocational qualifications, we help young people gain confidence and to lead socially active and engaged lives.
Every student has the opportunity to undertake internal or external work placements as part of their individualised learning programme. Work experience opportunities and individual long-term goals are discussed with each student and work placements arranged to meet their specific needs.
Learning focuses on the development of practical and vocational skills that can be implemented in the wider community. Areas of work include but are not limited to animal care, catering, hospitality, beauty and gardening. Such activities and placements have proven very effective in increasing young people’s confidence in life after college.

* An Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document for young adults with special educational needs and details their education, health and social requirements. If the prospective student does not have an EHCP in place, we may not be the right provision for them.
"Use of timelines, social stories and visual resources are routine to successfully working with him and crucial in preparing him for unfamiliar environments or changes to his planned day."
Jason's Story"All learners in practical sessions benefit from realistic working environments, and they work to professional standards to accomplish tasks. In catering sessions, learners prepare the main course that is served at lunchtime in the college’s canteen. In practical workshop sessions, learners develop woodwork and painting skills by renovating old furniture. Learners benefit from realistic work projects and, as a result, develop their employability skills well."
