This week, our Pengwern College students have been busy designing and constructing a bug hotel using a variety of natural and recycled materials gathered from around the college.
They incorporated items such as weeds, twigs, old tyres, stones, moss, bark, and other materials they believe will create a welcoming and safe habitat for a wide range of insects.
Their bug hotel is now located in a quiet corner of the farm park, where it will support local biodiversity by providing essential refuge for pollinators like bees, beetles, and other beneficial insects.
By offering a safe space for these creatures, they hope to contribute to a healthier ecosystem and promote natural pest control and pollination on the farm.
"It’s been a fun and rewarding project that’s helped us learn more about ecology, teamwork, and the importance of protecting wildlife in even the smallest of ways."
