Last academic year, the Duke of Edinburgh students (and others) reported their litter picking findings to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), through the Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE), who are facilitating the “Source to Sea Litter Quest”.
CPRE provided 10 complete litter picking kits, including litter picker, gloves, high-viz vests and litter bag with holder, all made from recycled materials. In return, we used their Source to Sea Litter Quest Survey From to report our overall weekly findings throughout each semester.
Getting involved in a larger project like this gives a greater meaning to our frequent litter picking sessions and has helped motive our students who, I think you’ll agree have done a great job!
We are continuing with this activity and will keep reporting our data to see what we can achieve by September 2026!
