Residential Services

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we now have our very own Sensory Space at Shap Road! Here are a couple of pictures of the amazing space that we have created, along with a detailed breakdown of each piece of fantastic equipment that our residents will have access to 24/7:

Colour Column

A bubble tube with no bubbles! Designed specifically for areas where water is not an option, the Colour Column features a frosted acrylic tube which changes colour and light pattern at the touch of a button. Select from a choice of solid colours to light up any darkened room, or switch to one of the eight programmed moving colour modes, creating an ever-changing rainbow of vertical and horizontal flashes. Very calming and relaxing the Colour Column is also ideal for eye tracking exercises.

Vibroacoustic Corner Seat with Soft Play Speaker Seat

A Soft play corner seat manufactured from durable vinyl covered foam. Designed to sit in the corner of a room. It incorporates two built-in speakers which emit vibrations that can be felt through the seat and back panels. The vibro acoustic sound helps with relaxation and wellness. Let the deep sound resonance work through the body and relax.

Fibre Optic Wall Carpet

A black carpet with colour changing fibre optics woven into the pile which create a stunning shimmering effect. The carpet is wall-mounted horizontally, making it accessible for visual and tactile exploration.

Interactive Infinity Tunnel

The LED Interactive Infinity Tunnel offers total control over a never-ending tunnel of ever-changing coloured LED lights, using switches to effect lighting changes in the tunnel. This can be used by all four of residents at the same time, each with their own switch, encouraging awareness and developing communication skills between each other.

It operates the following programmes:

• Rainbow - The lights create an automatic colour change like a rainbow. This requires no switch use.

• 4 Colours - The lights step in a 4-colour sequence - Red, Yellow, Green, Blue. This requires no switch activity.

• Colour Chase - The lights fade through four colours - Red, Yellow, Green, Blue. This requires no switch activity.

• All Colour - Plug in the four switches - Press any switch and change the colour.

• Next Colour - Plug in the 4 switches - Press any switch to change the next colour in the sequence.

• Ready Steady Go - Plug in the 4 switches - Group switch reaction game - First to press their colour wins and locks other users out for 6 seconds.

• Turn Taking - Plug in the 4 switches - Group game where the users cannot monopolise the game - When a switch is pressed the lights stay on the chosen colour until another switch is pressed.

• Roundabout - Plug in the 4 switches - Press the appropriate switch and watch the one pixel of colour light go completely around the tunnel.

Fibre Optics & Lightsource

A spray of acrylic fibres which constantly change colour along their full length. The changing colours encourage focus of attention and provide visual stimulation which is particularly useful for the partially sighted.

Acoustic Tactile Wall Panel

This panel has many acoustic as well as visual and tactile experiences: beat the wooden chimes, ring the fluorescent mirror bells, bang on the tambourine, turn the mirror rattle disc, see funny faces in the mirror disc, drop the coloured shaped blocks through the sort and shape holes to hear and see them clatter through the pegs to the trough below – the interaction is endless!

Tactile Place Mats

A set of six textured mats, each with their own distinctive colour and texture, from red plush or black faux leather to yellow honeycombed fabric or green two-tone sequins. We have fixed these to the wall with Velcro, so that they can be easily removed and swapped around.
