Cambian Dilston College offers students the opportunity to achieve nationally recognised, accredited, vocational qualifications; whilst also evidencing progression towards personal aspirations, EHCP outcomes and the development of skills vital in students’ preparation for adulthood.
Following an initial baseline assessment period, our person-centred approach provides flexible routes to full qualifications from Entry Level 1, up to and including Level 2; units of work are carefully selected to enable students to achieve Awards, Certificates or Diplomas. Opportunities to develop literacy, numeracy and IT skills are embedded across the curriculum, complimenting discrete functional skills sessions. In addition to working towards vocational and functional skills qualifications, students are supported to develop independent living and employability skills, tailored to their preferred future pathway.
Education and care teams work cohesively to ensure a holistic, positive experience for students. For our residential students this includes supporting them to continue their learning outside of core college hours, focusing on promoting and continually developing life skills.
Our strong core values ensure students are empowered - promoting self-advocacy and providing access to meaningful, developmental experiences. Staff across the college act as role models; using creative and innovative strategies, whilst presenting a positive attitude, supports students to thrive. This is deeply embedded within our friendly and person-centred approach, ensuring the young people we are privileged to support, remain at the heart of all we do.
Young people are supported throughout all stages of their journey with us. When initially joining us, students are enabled to become familiar with the sensory supportive and totally inclusive surroundings, providing stability and security as a foundation. We believe this enables students’ access to learning; improving and sustaining engagement and creating positive, personal progress throughout their journey.
At Cambian Dilston College, the environment and staff approach are tailored to provide inviting areas; carefully balancing stimulating activities and resources to ensure students feel safe and have access to tools that support their regulation. Providing a totally inclusive environment, ensures our offer is equitable – overcoming barriers and enabling access to education and activities for each young person. We enable our students by providing opportunities and resources to learn new skills, whilst promoting self-advocacy. This approach supports each individual to make positive, meaningful progress towards their personal and academic aspirations.
