Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions we receive about admissions and pathways.

What is the admission criteria for CWC?

CWC admission criteria requires the young person to have an Autism diagnosis, an EHCP, working at Entry Level 3 to Level 3 and aged between 16-25years.

What is the referral pathway to CWC?

CWC have an initial referral pathway that is designed for fairness and consistent approach to any prospective students. The 10 step pathway allows us to complete our due-diligence, assess and observe the young person, ensure we have consent for a potential placement and that we can meet their needs. Further details of the referral pathway is available on our website.

What does the assessment look like?

The prospective student will be invited to be assessed at the college for prospective day student from 09.15-15.55hours or college and residential visit for prospective residential student from 10.30hours on day one to 11.10 on day two. This gives them a chance to experience the college and see if they like it.

They will be provided with a timetable and photo boards prior to arrival so they know what to expect during their visit. The young person will be observed discreetly by teachers, wellbeing team and support staff taking in account their engagement, motivation to join in with the sessions along with their communication and life skills.

Feedback is collated and a decision made as to whether CWC can make an offer. If we can’t meet need, we tell you why. If we can meet need, we will write an offer for the preferred placement and any 1:1 support requirements.

How do I obtain funding for placement?

Once CWC have made an offer this will be sent to parents, and to the Local Authority for consideration via our Commissioning Team. Your Local Authority will take this offer to panel to make a decision on funding. Please note that Post-16 is the last funding agreed by panels.

What is the capacity of college and residential houses?

We have capacity for 28 residential and 19 day students at Cambian Wing College.

Are there any factors that would mean my child could not be considered for CWC?

CWC do have an exclusion criteria. Should we deem that your child meets any of these factors, this would be discussed with you at point of initial referral .
