Specialist Education

A group of hardworking, students are celebrating after successfully completing their ASDAN Gardening qualification, marking a significant achievement in both their personal development and practical skills.

Over the past academic year, the students have been working diligently on a range of gardening projects, from planting seasonal flowers and maintaining school grounds to growing their own vegetables and learning about sustainable horticultural practices. The ASDAN qualification, known for its emphasis on developing practical, employability, and life skills, provided students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised accreditation.

Practical Skills and Personal Growth

Throughout the course, students engaged in activities such as soil preparation, plant care, garden design, and environmental awareness. Many of them also took part in group projects, collaborating to revitalise neglected areas of the school grounds, creating vibrant flower beds, and even constructing small wildlife habitats to encourage biodiversity on site.

Tina who led the programme, expressed immense pride in the students’ commitment and progress. “This qualification has given our students a fantastic opportunity to learn outside the classroom. They’ve developed valuable life skills like teamwork, responsibility, and patience, alongside practical gardening knowledge. It’s been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as the garden flourished around them.”

Looking Ahead

Several of the students involved have already expressed interest in pursuing further qualifications in horticulture, environmental studies, or land-based industries after leaving school. Others noted that the experience has inspired them to take up gardening as a personal hobby, contributing positively to their mental wellbeing and sense of achievement.

The completion of the ASDAN Gardening qualification stands as a testament to the students' resilience and dedication, and the school looks forward to seeing how these new skills will support them in their future endeavours.

Congratulations to all the students involved  your hard work has truly paid off, and your efforts have left a lasting legacy in our school’s gardens.
