Project Compass Bee Hive Building

09.07.2026

Over the summer term, students at our Project Compass site have been actively involved in building new bee hives in preparation for the arrival of our colony. This initiative goes far beyond honey production – it's about teaching students stewardship, sustainability, and the vital role bees play in protecting healthy ecosystems.

Through hands-on care of the hives, students witness first-hand how bees support biodiversity, pollinate our wildflower meadow, and contribute to a thriving natural environment. The apiary also opens up exciting enterprise opportunities. As our colonies develop, students will harvest products such as honey, beeswax, and potentially propolis to create items for sale through our community horsebox.

This process will equip them with valuable business skills, including product design, marketing content creation, website development, and data analysis to inform decision-making. By bringing together conservation, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and real-world learning, this project provides students with meaningful, practical experiences whilst making a positive contribution to both our site and the wider community.
