An 11-bed locked intensive rehabilitation unit for men with learning disabilities and associated mental health conditions

Laurel Court

Laurel Court is a locked intensive rehabilitation unit for up to 11 men with learning disabilities. The focus at Laurel Court is on rehabilitation in a safe and structured environment, with intensive clinical and therapeutic input provided by the on-site multi disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists and nurses.

Laurel Court has a large, landscaped garden and spacious communal areas including two quiet rooms with comfortable chairs. All bedrooms are en-suite and furbished to a very high standard and individuals are encouraged to personalise their rooms to their own tastes. Staffing levels are high and qualified nurses are available 24 hours a day.

Laurel Court is situated in Colchester which is Britain's oldest recorded town. Colchester is a thriving, modern town with many great attractions including Colchester Zoo and Colchester Castle Museum. Colchester has excellent shopping facilities and many amenities for residents. The coast is a short drive away and London is accessible by regular rail links with journeys taking under an hour. Laurel Court is well situated for local amenities which is particularly important when beginning a graduated leave programme. Laurel Court has it's own mini-bus but we actively encourage clients to use public transport to develop the necessary skills in preparation for an eventual move back to the community.

Every individual at Laurel Court accesses the local community with the support of staff. Many are members of the local gym, some attend college and they enjoy the regular Gateway club. Colchester Town Football Club is just accross the road and many of our patients attend home games regularly. Weekly activities can also include cinema, bowling, shopping outings and picnics, but any activity is encouraged once it has been suitably risk assessed.

Laurel Court is serviced by the Occupational Therapy-led Joy Clare day centre, where individuals can utilise the music room, art room, games room and training kitchen.
