Poetry Day

05.10.2023

Devon school celebrated National Poetry Day this year with a limerick theme. All staff and students took part in a limerick writing competition with some fantastic, funny, creative, and quirky limericks. During our morning assembly we learned how to structure a limerick and read out some fun examples. We then split into groups to see who could create the most fantastic limerick. This completion continued throughout the day. We read out the limericks at the end of the week and a prize was awarded to the student that created the following limerick during his Science lesson;

We added some metals to cold water

The mad teacher said ‘that we oughta

Stand 10 paces away

Or this would be a bad day

Because it might explode like a mortar’!

It was a very tough competition with many great limericks that are now proudly displayed in the English room.
