A glorious May afternoon of cricket unfolded on the lawn outside Lufton Manor yesterday as teams from The White Horse, Manor Farm, and Lufton Manor took to the crease for a sun-soaked showdown worthy of the village green!

There were plenty of cries of “Howzat!” and enough chatter behind the stumps to sound like a full radio commentary team was running the show.

With batting that ranged from beautifully timed shots to the occasional “oops… I meant to do that,” there was plenty of effort and laughter from the crease throughout the afternoon.

In the end, Lufton Manor just edged the honours with 65 runs to Manor Farm’s 57 , although there were rumours of questionable umpiring decisions and at least one batter claiming they were “definitely not out!”

The real winner, however, was everyone coming together for time spent outdoors in the beautiful Somerset sunshine, teamwork and good old-fashioned cricket.

A huge thank you to Eiron and Debs for organising the match, with more sporting fixtures already lined up in the half-term calendar - the big question now is… who will come out on top in the next sporting showdown?
