I’ve been working with Shap road for almost a year now, the home is always homely and welcoming, and the Staff I have met are approachable and knowledgeable, and they know the residents well. Residents appear happy and settled when I have visited, and take part in a range of activities.

As a Speech and Language Therapist, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the residents and team at Shap Road on a number of occasions. From the moment I step through the door, I’m met with a genuinely warm and friendly welcome. The staff are not only knowledgeable and skilled in their roles, but they also demonstrate a thoughtful, person-centred approach to supporting each young person. It’s clear that empowering residents to take control of their own lives is at the heart of everything they do. The team actively works to create environments where independence, voice, and choice are nurtured.

“Stepping foot in to Shap Road you can see exactly why it is rated as Outstanding. Upon all previous visits, regardless of which staff are present, you can see that they all know exactly what is expected of them and the homely, safe and warm environment that they have created is something not found in many other care homes we have visited. It feels exactly how a home should feel and this is epitomised by the Manager of the service. The level of detail that he has implemented across the service and the standards that he sets and expects of the staffing team, go above and beyond what is normally found within a care home of this ilk and size. Shap Road provides a level of care that not many other care homes can or do, it is always a pleasure to visit this home and witness first hand how happy the residents are.”

“The dedication, support and openness shown by Daniel and his team is above and beyond anything we have experienced previously. The time and effort Daniel made in assuring our community that your hopes are to be part of the community and not just a business proposition has led to the service being accepted in to the local area wholeheartedly. Being so open and honest with the community is something we are not used to in these cases and we can see exactly why the service and Daniel are rated so highly, showing how it stands them apart from others within the sector.”

-        Parish Council

“Daniel, please share with the staff and wider organisation as you choose, I want you to congratulate yourself and the staff.  You are providing a very good service to the people who live there and you should be proud of your achievements.  There isn’t a score higher on our visit form that what I have given you, but if there was I’d have scored higher. I look forward to visiting again.”

-        Local Authority

“It was an excellent initial visit, staff provided a comprehensive update on the YP indicating a good understanding of their needs.  All staff made me feel very welcome.  The layout of the home was perfect with personally decorated rooms with planners, the rooms were very comfortable.  The sensory room was amazing.  It was a pleasure to meet the residents who came across as very happy and all interacted well with staff.  It was a pleasure to visit and I look forward to next time”.

"I would like to say that I have really liked the house and the atmosphere in it. I have been to several homes over the years in one guise or another and I have never felt what you guys have. It was really nice to see"

Whinfell Shap Road is an exceptional residential care home in Kendal town. The four bedroom home has a warm comfortable atmosphere which provides a safe relaxing and private environment for the residents. The management team and care staff have a clear vision of the high standards that are expected. This is achieved through training support and dedication to meet the individual needs of each resident.

Speaking from the perspective as a parent, we feel incredibly lucky to have our daughter living at Whinfell Shap Road. Every parent of a young person with additional needs, is anxious that their young persons needs are met in a safe, kind, environment, where they can fulfil their potential.

Shap Road offers a client centered approach, meaning just that. Our daughter has a voice, she gets to make choices about her day and how she spends it.

The team are caring and fun and are motivated to provide the best home environment for our young people where they can flourish.

Our son lives at Whinfell Shap Rd, and we are very impressed with the care he receives there, and the careful planning that goes into his care, to make his life as happy and fulfilled as it can be. His routine is based wholly on person centred planning, playing to his strengths and interests, as well as giving him all the sensory input and regulation to successfully manage his needs. He plays a full part in the community he lives in and is valued. We have a great relationship with and trust of the staff and communication with them is excellent. We believe our son is in the best place for him and we are grateful.

A homely and safe environment that gives residents the opportunity to live a fulfilled life.

Thank you - From Cassie's Family

“Dear Dan and colleagues,

I’m writing to you to express my thanks and appreciation for all you do, day in day out to support Cassie.

Following the meeting we’ve just attended together, it’s clear to see that you all have Cassie’s best interests at heart and that you are true advocates for her. As a family, we are more than happy with the care that Cassie is receiving from you and we hope that she can continue to be placed with you for the foreseeable future. We had had some signals from the social worker that Cassie’s needs might not have warranted residential care funding and as you can imagine, we were anxious at the thought of having to look more towards a supported living model. However, it is apparent that Cassie is in the best place possible for her needs and although her progress since being with you is small…it is still progress.

Please know that we appreciate everything you do - we know it’s not easy, but it makes a huge difference to know that you and your team have Cassie’s best interests at heart”.
