"S has only been at Lufton College for a short time, but there are already signs of increased communication. During a recent visit to a previous youth club over half term, feedback from staff there was extremely positive. They reported that he had been initiating games and appeared far happier and more present than in previous visits. He was described as a pleasure to have, which was a notable and encouraging change in feedback.
There were initial concerns about how he would settle, given the significant transition from a previous school where he had been for many years. However, he has coped well with the changes, and the transition is felt to have gone as smoothly as could reasonably have been expected.
We’re really happy that we found Lufton and that Sam appears to be fitting in well. We’re really happy with how Sam’s first term is going, we think we have found the right place for him and we hope he continues to make good progress."

"Over the past 2 years, we have seen real and meaningful progress. Listening skills have developed, and with support there is increasing understanding of concepts such as “right” and “wrong”. Emotional regulation has also improved significantly, with episodes of distress now less frequent, shorter in duration, and less intense.
At home, simple strategies such as using the prompt “breathe” help support regulation. Self-soothing is often supported through familiar songs, and there is sometimes an ability to reflect afterwards and communicate what may have caused anxiety.
Relationships with others continue to develop positively. There has been a shift from avoiding visitors to initiating interaction in a personal and meaningful way, often through sharing photos or objects. While responses to greetings are not always consistent, engagement with familiar adults is positive and peer awareness is emerging.
Future planning is underway and is supporting the development of appropriate arrangements and increased community access. Community engagement remains both important and complex, although with preparation and visual support, positive experiences such as visits into the community have been successful."

"It’s G here I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you’ve helped me with and done for me, and I’m very thankful for everyone at Cambian Lufton College for helping me. I know my life hasn’t been easy, but as a student at Lufton College you have really helped me. I really really want to say thank you”.

"We are very impressed with how quickly and thoroughly staff have got to know and understand J, and how effectively adjustments are being made across the curriculum in response to this understanding. In particular, we have seen how tasks are swiftly adapted and broken down into smaller, manageable steps with appropriate scaffolding, based on careful observation and ongoing assessment.
We are also very impressed with the quality and detail of the weekly reports, as well as the Communication Profile and Behaviour Support Plan. These provide clear, consistent and reassuring insight into progress and support strategies. We were especially reassured by the way staff managed a recent period of illness earlier in the term. It was a very difficult situation, and we felt fully supported through clear communication, calm decision-making, and a high level of care and caution, particularly given the potential risks involved. This gave us real confidence that J was in safe hands.
We have also been pleased to see that observations from therapy input relating to possible sensory or visual needs were acted upon promptly and appropriately. In addition, we are delighted that J is enjoying increased physical activity, including outdoor play and sport.
J is particularly enjoying vocational experiences, including practical work-based activities, where confidence and engagement in hands-on tasks is growing. We are excited to see strengths being recognised and developed through meaningful opportunities.
We are also pleased to see progress in social development. Increased opportunities for shared environments appear to be supporting J’s ability to tolerate and engage alongside peers. Although there has historically been more dependence on adults for social connection, we are encouraged to see early signs of J beginning to share space, resources and attention with others.
While there has been some initial staff transition, which was understandably noticeable at the start, we feel this has now settled well and we are happy with the stability that has been established.
We want J to continue flourishing, with support to explore new opportunities and build independence in practical life skills as well as personal interests. We are keen for J to be encouraged to engage in a wide range of experiences and to be supported in developing everyday independence skills.
We are delighted with J’s increased peer interaction and the positive social experiences now being accessed, as well as how busy and purposeful J’s daily schedule has become.
We are pleased that J’s physical needs have been appropriately identified and responded to, and would like to see continued development in this area, including opportunities for team sports where possible.
We would also like J to access swimming and horse riding, as these have previously supported physical development, coordination and confidence - A plan is already in place for weekly swimming sessions, which we are very pleased about.
Since starting, J has had one home visit during the Christmas period, where J settled well back into familiar routines. We are very grateful for the support provided. In a short period of time, J has made clear progress and appears to be settling well, gaining confidence, and beginning to thrive."
