Tricia has worked for the Scarborough School for over 15 years as a Teacher, Deputy Head and now as Head. Previously she worked as a Residential Housemother for 10 years working for NCH both in Leeds and Scarborough and has also been self- employed owning her own business for 10 years. 

Tricia wanted to work in the education sector with SEN children; she worked as a Specialist Teaching Assistant at a local Primary school for six years and completed a 3 year degree course in BA (Hons) Professional studies in Primary Education. Qualifications include: BA (Hons) Professional Studies in Primary Education with English Literature, STA - Specialist Teaching Assistant, Level 4 Management Award.

Michelle Monteith

Michelle studied at Lincoln University to complete her BSC (Hons) in Forensic Science and Psychology.  After gaining experience working in schools as an Advanced Teaching Assistant she returned to University to complete a PGCE in Secondary Science.

Michelle has been with the school for many years and has taught a variety of subjects. Michelle is the appointed SENCO for Scarborough School. Qualifications include: BSc (Hons) Forensic Science and Psychology, PGCE Secondary Science.

Deputy Head Teacher and Exams Officer

Michelle has worked with the company for over 15 years teaching a variety of subjects but specialising in Mathematics to GCSE level. She jointly runs the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at Bronze level and plans and organises team building activities for the whole school to encourage group participation.

Michelle is also the school Examination Officer and is responsible for assessments in general throughout the key stages. Qualifications include: BSc (Hons) Maths with QTS.

Jason Laidler

Jason has worked in a number of different jobs before going to the University of Hull as a mature student and gaining BSc (Hons) Psychology. He began working as a general teaching assistant before completing GTP training as an ICT teacher in Hull.

Jason gained a lot of experience working in a number of different and diverse schools, working in mainstream, PRUs, SEN schools and special provision for pupils with autism. He has taught a number of subjects in the past, he recently joined the team and specialises in English and ICT here at Scarborough. Qualifications include: BSc (Hons) Psychology, GTP - ICT, Level 2 Counselling Skills.

Teacher

Sophie Martin

Sophie is our new Teacher and she joined us in January 2020 and primarily teaches English. She has come to us from another local school where she was teaching classes with a high rate of Pupil Premium, special educational needs and disabilities as well as pupils with English as an additional language.

Sophie initially trained at the Royal Military School of Music in Twickenham and spent 12 years as a musician and regular soldier in the army. Sophie left the forces in 2014 to pursue a career in education and, after working as an Advanced Teaching Assistant, she went on to complete teacher training with Brighton University gaining her BA (Hons) in Secondary Education (English). She has taught English at several secondary schools across North Yorkshire and the East Riding.

Kelly Murphy

Kelly has worked for the Scarborough School for many years, firstly as a Learning Support Assistant and now as an Instructor. Kelly previously worked in early years at a local primary school before joining the team here. Qualifications include: NVQ STALIS - Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Intermediate Health and Social Care, Advanced Health and Social Care, Nursery Nursing.

Hannah Tomlinson

Hannah has worked for the Scarborough School for many years first as a Learning Support Assistant and has now progressed to become an Instructor specialising in History. Hannah is a talented artist and is particularly creative. Qualifications include: NVQ STALIS - Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Hannah also carries out the cleaning role in school.

Paul Mathers

Paul originally joined the team as a Learning Support Assistant. More recently Paul was promoted to Instructor and specialises in Physical Education, Problem Solving and Team Building as well as supporting a variety of other classes. Qualifications include: Teaching Instructor for Army Cadets, Duke of Edinburgh Awards in Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Vocational Instructor

Ian Kuy

Ian is employed on a part time basic as the school’s vocational instructor. Ian has spent almost 40 years working within the construction trade and is now passing on his knowledge and skills to students. Qualifications include: Craft Certificate in Wood Trades.

Learning Support Assistant

Annette Jones

Annette was originally employed on a temporary basis to specifically help one of our students who required 1:1 support. Annette fitted in with the team really well and was successful when a permanent role became available; Annette is now a general LSA and supports many students in a variety of classes and activities. Qualifications include: Level 2 Teaching Assistant and Level 3 Classroom Behaviour Management.

Pastoral Lead

Harley Botham

Harley joined the team in September 2018 as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant for one of our new students needing 1:1 support in school. Harley has previously worked as a SEN Teaching Assistant at Norton College and as a Support Worker for the Wilf Ward family Trust. Harley is musical and plays the double bass in a rockabilly band. Harley also speaks Spanish and is currently studying this subject at the Open University, she plans to specialise in this subject in the future. In September 2020 Harley was promoted to Pastoral Lead and now specialises in this area of support and education in school.

Learning Support Assistant

Hayley Miller

Hayley, who had been working as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant with a child who needed extra support in school, has now been given a permanent role in school as a general Learning Support Assistant. Hayley had previously worked for many years in a care home setting, but is also a qualified hairdresser.

Vanessa Moore

Vanessa has been our part-time administrator for several years now, she has worked in admin and finance roles since leaving school and worked in a Children’s Centre prior to joining us here.  Qualifications include: Advanced G.N.V.Q in Business Studies, AAT - Accountancy.

Termly Governance Board meetings are held at Cambian Scarborough School to ensure that the management of the school is closely scrutinised and held to account in all areas of responsibility.
