This weeks education focus is Functional skills.
At Dilston College, we’re proud to support students on their journey from Pre-entry to Entry 3 Maths and English.
Students have the opportunity to develop their functional skills from pre-entry to Entry 3 Maths and English. For Pre-entry students we use a lot of symbols and practical tasks to support their understanding and learning.
We develop their number skills using fun matching and sequencing tasks. Reading and understanding are developed using differentiated resources depending on ability. Students use symbol for practical tasks such as cooking.
Entry 1 to Entry 3 students tasks are differentiated to develop their learning. For Entry 1 we use some symbols to support with following instructions and to promote understanding.
All students work with 1:1 staff to enable them to reach their potential. Entry 3 students work much more independently.
We also work on developing speaking and listening skills to Entry 3 and using these skills practically such as creating a video as part of the interview process for an
Students are able to sit their Pearson Edexcel functional skills exams in Entry 1, 2 and 3.
