Before Cambian Wisbech School
Before arriving at Wisbech, B was diagnosed with ADHD. He struggled within a school setting and was displaying disruptive behaviours, disengagement in the classroom and had fixed term exclusions from school.
He was expressing feelings through behaviour, frequently opting out of formal learning tasks and leaving the classroom to hide within the school building.
How Wisbech Supported B
To ensure that he felt comfortable on his first day, the team at Wisbech School worked together, in providing reassurance throughout the day and a timetable with targets, by which he was able to understand what would happen next and how he could achieve the target set.
An individualised behaviour support plan was implemented to make sure that he received consistent management and care from all the staff. He was assigned a Key Worker within the staff team to promote strong relationships and encourage open communication.
Wisbech School encouraged him to join in at every opportunity, helping develop his confidence, skills and abilities, enabling him to create positive long-lasting memories.
B's Time With Us
He attended regularly, gaining an attendance over 98%. He began to spend time with others, including taking part in large group activities and later became a role model for other students, offering advice and support.
He found the confidence and resilience to become more engaged with the tasks given to him from the school. He saw the importance of having his own voice, not following the crowd and expressing his own opinions.
During his time at Wisbech School, he demonstrated a great aptitude for Maths and a plethora of other academic subjects as well as his own pursuit of personal interests. He was keen to engage in his lessons and learning, often asking questions and gaining vital knowledge. He was keen to pursue a career with the firefighting service and Wisbech school were able to facilitate him going to the gym. He attended the gym regularly and tracked his progress through his weights and reps.
Where B Is Now
He has achieved a variety of qualifications ranging from GCSES in Maths, English and Science.
These results provided him with the opportunity to enrol and be accepted onto a Uniformed Public service course at a local college. The transition has been a successful one and he is now happy and settled in his new educational setting, hoping to join the Fire Service upon completion.
