Fostering Services

What Age of Children Would I Foster?

The majority of children and young people who are referred to us at By the Bridge with Cambian are aged between 8-17 years old with the average age being around 12 years old. You must be open to caring for any child if you were to become a foster parent with us regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, religious beliefs, etc.

We don't tend to get children referred to us below the ages of eight so if it is young children that you are interested in fostering then we might not be the right organisation for you.

Can I foster if I have a baby?

We ask that your newborn be at least 6 months before you apply to become a foster parent with By the Bridge with Cambian. Having a baby brings many changes to you and your home life and we want to ensure everyone is settled before you bring another child into your home.

Am I too old to foster?

You must be at least 25 years old to be considered for fostering with By the Bridge with Cambian. Some of the children or young people who are referred to us can be up to 17 years old so we feel it is important that there is a substantial age gap between the foster parent(s) and a looked-after child or young person.

There is no upper age limit to foster with By the Bridge with the Cambian, all we ask if that you are in good physical and mental health. Life experience plays a huge part in fostering and if you feel you can offer a safe and secure home for a child or young person, irrespective of age, then we'd love to hear from you.
