At Cambian Scarborough School, we have consistent successful outcomes for our students. We provide a broad continuum of support, enabling a whole spectrum of educational provision to be available for a wide range of special needs, including emotional, social and mental health difficulties. All students are treated as individuals, with their difficulties taken into account when planning the most suitable, creative and effective educational provision for them.

We pride ourselves on providing a warm, caring and nurturing environment where students are able to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. Visitors comment that they can instantly feel the nurturing ethos of the school and this stems from the dedication and passion that our individual staff members have for their work in supporting our students. Their diverse qualities and experiences enable individual students to achieve their 'personal best'. We have a good record of attendance and students say that they feel part of a school family and are safe and secure when in our school.

Our school staff form part of an effective, well-established team that aims to equip learners with their requisite knowledge and skills necessary to meet life's increasingly difficult challenges. Many of the staff have been at the school for over a decade and they work tirelessly and go above and beyond to make our young people feel valued and cared for. Each member of staff has their own unique character but has the same guiding principles that help put the young people at the heart of everything they do. Their work can be very challenging at times, but their focus on a child centered approach supports the whole wellbeing of our young people. Every student has a chosen Keyworker and other dedicated roles within the school including our School Administrator, Exams Officer, SENCO and Pastoral Lead. TheSMT includes the Headteacher and two Deputy Heads, which makes for a strong leadership team.

We have high expectations of our pupils, including the way they conduct themselves and in achieving academic outcomes. Our school curriculum is creative and is being constantly reviewed and adapted. We offer a range of qualifications to suit individual needs; these include Entry Level, Functional Skills, BTec's and D of E Bronze and Silver Awards.

As a Forest School our trained practitioner is able to teach nature led activities through exploration and discovery which enable our students to gain experiences for positive lifelong impacts. This alternative style of learning reduces the barriers of formal education.

Due to Covid-19 we have not been able to run our yearly residential visit to Howstean Gorge in Harrogate; students appreciate being offered new opportunities and it is great to see them overcome their fears in taking part in challenging activities. During 'lockdown' our school remained open and a high percentage of students were pleased to be at school. We set up an online learning platform through 'Class Dojo' and ‘Google Classroom’ and we are still using this tool for teaching and as an information point for parents and students as well as pupils being able to access remote live teaching.

At Cambian Scarborough School our students are constantly evolving to be the best possible version of themselves.
