Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. To honour this occasion, families around the world come together to share prayers, kindness, and festive meals.
As part of our cultural learning and celebration of Eid al-Adha, students had the exciting opportunity to explore the rich culinary traditions of Pakistan. Working together, they prepared a variety of delicious dishes that are commonly enjoyed during Eid festivities.
The menu included:
- Pilau Rice – A fragrant rice dish cooked with whole spices and stock, giving it a warm, savoury flavour. Students learned how to measure and combine ingredients to create the perfect balance of aroma and taste.
- Chicken Curry – A classic Pakistani dish made with tender chicken simmered in a richly spiced tomato and onion gravy. The students enjoyed the hands-on process of chopping, stirring, and seasoning the curry to perfection.
- Raita – A cooling yogurt-based side dish, raita was made with cucumber, mint, and a touch of spice, offering a refreshing contrast to the bold flavours of the main dishes.
- Milk Cake – For dessert, students prepared a traditional milk cake, a soft and sweet treat made by reducing milk and sugar, then flavoured with cardamom. It was a delightful way to end the meal.
Through this cooking activity, students not only developed culinary skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of Eid al-Adha and the traditions that bring people together. It was a joyful and educational experience that celebrated diversity, teamwork, and the spirit of sharing.
