Grateley House Students Learn about Lithuanian Culture

09.03.2021

As part of the transition week for students returning to full-time education, students celebrated a 'Language Day', being introduced to Lithuanian culture and history.

Students were given a presentation about the Lithuanian language, which is one of the oldest languages still in everyday use. The presentation also covered Lithuania’s culture, and it's people, helping the students to understand people's differences around the world.

They went on to watch a number of videos on historic and cultural events, as well as an introduction to a Lithuanian instrument, Kankles. A student was fascinated by the instrument and managed to play a few nursery rhymes. This was followed by the Lithuanian traditional craft activity of decorating Easter eggs with beeswax and dyes, pictured below.

The school now plans to repeat the event some time before Easter.
