If you have any concerns about your child's behaviour and suspect they may need extra provision, these pages will help you understand what to do and how to get the help your child may need
Once you have received a confirmed diagnosis of Asperger's, Autism or other learning disability, an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document for children and young people with special educational needs.
It is a plan that is written up by the Local Authority detailing your child's special education, health and social care needs and the support required to help them achieve their personal best.
Ask your Local Authority to carry out an assessment; a request can also be made by your child's GP, health visitors or teachers. If a Local Authority decides to carry out an assessment, you may be asked for reports in relation to your child's diagnosis, assessments from related professionals and a detailed letter addressing your child's needs.
The EHCP replaces the Statement of Educational Needs (SEN).
