Cambian Chesham House School

Young people have the opportunity to develop to their full potential in preparation of their future life where there is a passion for learning and mutual respect for all.

The school's curriculum is broad and balanced, and includes, where appropriate, all of the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. There is a particular emphasis on core subjects and on personal skills, as to address significant gaps in previous learning.

These subjects include: Mathematics, English, Science, ICT, PSHE, Food Technology, Art and Design, Humanities, RSE, Health and Social Care, Hair and Beauty, Mechanics, Construction, and Physical Education.

We actively promote opportunities for students to take part in a wide range of experiences that broaden their skills and knowledge through educational activities and trips, personal projects, community activities and work experiences both on and off site. Students have taken part in tailored workshops from external speakers, outdoor education experiences, first aid training and team building exercises delivered by skilled providers as well as our own team. Students are encouraged to make positive contributions to the wider world and society throughout the school year including working at the local food bank and taking part in community litter picking. In addition, students have opportunities to engage in animal therapy, music sessions and wellbeing through sport sessions. Activities are planned in collaboration with students as well as parents and carers.

We also offer vocational placements to all students and they will have the opportunity to receive staff support as required, including college. In some cases, there may be the opportunity for students to begin working independently at placements. However, this must be risk assessed and pre-planned with the final decision made by the school.

All students receive a careers education tailored to their age as well as individualised careers guidance that includes regular 1:1 sessions with our Careers Partner, GA Career Links. GA Career Links work alongside the school promoting the Gatsby Benchmarks and supporting students to be prepared for the fast-changing world of work. Our careers partner supports students to access a national network that connects our school with employers and careers programmes to create high-impact career opportunities for our students. Where appropriate students are encouraged to undertake work experience placements to enhance their experiences of the world of work. All placements are dependent on risk assessment outcomes and are pre-planned.
