We are delighted to announce that Whinfell School is now a Wild Passport! school. Wild Passport! gives our young people regular, hands‑on opportunities to explore and learn in nature — exactly the sort of practical, confidence‑building experiences that sit at the heart of our preparation for adulthood curriculum.
Over recent sessions pupils have been learning how to plan, design and build simple outdoor shelters. These activities aren’t just great fun — they deliberately practise the SkillsBuilder essentials we value: teamwork, communication, problem‑solving and resilience. For many of our young people, working outside also supports regulation and emotional wellbeing in a calm, low‑pressure environment, helping them engage more readily with learning.
A huge well done to everyone who took part, and a special thank you to the staff who planned and supported each session so carefully. Do take a look at the photo gallery in this week’s newsletter to see some of the brilliant shelters our young people made — and to spot the pride on their faces when they tested them out.
Next steps: we’ll be embedding more regular Wild Passport! activities into the curriculum so learners can build skills progressively across the year and apply them to other areas such as careers, independence and teamwork.
