Specialist Education

Cambian Lufton College is proud to celebrate a fantastic achievement within its Employability Department, as student Taylor has recently been undertaking a work experience art project for local care home, Compton View.

This exciting opportunity has provided Taylor with valuable real-world work experience, allowing him to step into the role of a working artist. As part of the project, Taylor has been asked to create a painting to a specific brief set by the employer - a key component of employability that supports young people in understanding expectations within the workplace.

The chosen design, a dandelion, holds special significance as the symbol for Compton View’s memory garden. By working to this meaningful theme, Taylor has developed his ability to interpret and respond to an employer’s vision, manage a piece of work from concept to completion, adapt his artistic skills to meet a professional brief and take pride in producing work for a real client and audience.

For learners with additional needs, opportunities like this are invaluable in building confidence and transferable skills. Taylor has demonstrated strong commitment, creativity, and professionalism throughout the process, gaining insight into what it means to work as a commissioned artist.

This experience directly supports Taylor’s aspirations for a future in the creative sector, giving him a practical foundation to build on as he continues his journey towards employment. It also highlights the importance of meaningful employer engagement in supporting students develop the skills needed for the workplace.

Cambian Lufton College is delighted to see Taylor thriving in this opportunity and looks forward to continuing to provide purposeful, skill-building experiences that prepare students for their futures. Watch this space!
