Last week Whinfell School enjoyed a brilliant careers experience in partnership with McDonald’s Kendal. Our young people took part in an interactive session where they discovered the many roles and progression routes available within the company. Staff from McDonald’s talked through day‑to‑day tasks, entry routes and the training opportunities on offer, and linked these directly to the SkillsBuilder essentials we practise at school communication, teamwork, problem‑solving and staying positive.
After some energetic team‑building activities and careers guidance from Emma, everyone had the chance to put those skills into practice. Our young people prepared their own food in the restaurant kitchen and then sat down together to enjoy the lunch they’d made a hands‑on moment that really brought the world of work to life and helped them think more clearly about pathways into adult life.
The visit was a lovely example of how real workplace experiences can boost confidence, build practical skills and broaden aspirations. Thank you very much to Emma and the whole team at McDonald’s Kendal for giving our young people such a welcoming, supportive and memorable opportunity.
