Cambian Beverley School enjoyed a visit to York Mosque this week, as part of their ‘Since 9 -11’ topic.

Imam Abid Salik shared lots of information with our young people and staff, who were surprised to learn that the majority of Muslims pray at least 5 times a day. Before beginning their prayers they engage in ritualistic washing of the hands, feet, arms, and legs, which is called ‘Wudhu.’

Everybody felt very privileged to be allowed a sneak preview of the new Mosque which has just been built. The visit promoted Fundamental British Values we have been learning about in school; giving pupil’s an insight into the nature of British Islam, and they were encouraged to compare this to the way Islam is presented by the media and to understand that groups like Isis are not a true reflection of the Islam followed by the vast majority of Muslims in Britain.

The staff and young people had a really lovely time at the York Mosque and were fascinated to learn more about Islam and the everyday practices of the faith.
