World Animal Day 2026

09.10.2026

On World Animal Day, pupils at Devon School enjoyed an exciting day of wildlife discovery and creativity.

The day began with a special visit from Animal Encounters with Chris Johnson, giving pupils the opportunity to meet and learn about a variety of animals up close. This hands-on experience helped bring the natural world to life and sparked curiosity about different species and their habitats.

Following the animal encounter session, pupils took to the outdoors with binoculars to spot local birds around the school grounds. This activity encouraged careful observation and patience, whilst connecting pupils with the wildlife in their immediate environment.

The day concluded with a creative art project, where pupils hand-painted birds for our new Dartmoor mural. This collaborative artwork will serve as a lasting reminder of our World Animal Day celebrations and the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats.

The event successfully combined spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, allowing pupils to develop respect for living things, work together creatively, and appreciate the natural beauty of the Dartmoor area.
