September Update from Lilac Class at Brook View

25.09.2026

Lilac Class shares update on their first month of the New Term:

Math Classes

In Maths this week, we have been exploring place value, specifically numbers in the hundreds. Yesterday, I created a place value table divided into columns of hundreds, tens, and units. I wrote a number above the table and my learner had to place the corresponding number of pom-poms into each section. Today, after a quick recap of what we did yesterday, I decided to switch things around to challenge him a bit further. This time I placed the pom-poms into the different sections and the learner had to work out and write the complete number himself. And wow did he rise to the challenge! After I modelled one example, the learner got it right on his very first attempt and continued to get it right again and again. Even better, he was enjoying himself so much he wanted to keep going! I did not even have to help him write the numbers, he did it all on his own after counting the number of pom-poms.

Trip to ASDA

The learner did an amazing job at going to ASDA and choosing our vegetables for our Harvest Day alongside a peer in his class. He followed a shopping list to find the products of fruits and vegetables and picked them up and put them into the basket. He even helped scan the items at the end of our shopping trip.
