‘You are a Reader’

11.03.2022

This year was the 25th anniversary of World Book Day and the theme was ‘You are a Reader’.

World Book Day Students And Staff In Classroom

We have always encouraged our young people to read, particularly in lessons but we also have dedicated times in the morning for students to pick up a magazine, a newspaper, a book or leaflets to relax and have some quiet time to read for pleasure. We now have a library area which students can have access to at break and lunchtimes as well as in lessons.

All students and staff were invited to come to school dressed as a character from a book. The majority of staff took part and we had many different characters from books including Fantastic Mr Fox, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Number Devil, Alice in Wonderland, Gangsta Granny, The Hunger Games and Jeeves and Wooster.

One of our students dressed as Dennis the Menace and he received a £5 voucher as a reward for his efforts.

Students completed Book Reviews and took part in a whole school quiz. This was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all students and staff that took part.
