Rebound Therapy is delivered either by Jolene Byrne Thrive Practitioner, or by Lizzie Sykes, our Occupational Therapist. Jolene offers Rebound Therapy as part of the iSTART programme for our new starters, supporting their transition into school through movement‑based regulation and relational connection. Rebound is also available to all students, either as part of their timetabled provision, as a movement break, or as a lunchtime activity.
Through Rebound Therapy, students can work towards Winstrada Levels 1–3, gaining a sense of achievement while developing physical skills such as balance, coordination, muscle tone, and body awareness. Emotionally, the rhythmic movement and co‑regulation support help build confidence, self‑esteem, and improved self‑regulation.
The sessions also promote communication and social interaction, and can strengthen rapport between students and staff. Rebound Therapy provides a calm, shared space for restorative work, offering opportunities for movement while creating time to talk.
Joint interventions are also embedded into sessions such as Thrive strategies or Occupational Therapy targets ensuring each session is purposeful, therapeutic, and tailored to individual developmental needs.
